Case Study

Fremantle Rail Bridge

LOCATION

Fremantle, Western Australia

PROJECT SCOPE

Infrastruction Scaffolding

CLIENT

Public Transport Authority

OVERVIEW

ScafWest were selected for this high profile and important project to enable the replacement of the transom at the busy Fremantle rail bridge.

THE CHALLENGES

The location itself was challenging, presenting many different and significant logistical considerations. It required careful planning with the different parties involved to understand all the pre-requisites, which included extremely stringent health and industry standards and ensuring minimal disruption to train, boat, motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

During the final stages of installation, the rail bridge was struck by a cargo ship, which damaged a section of the bridge and the scaffolding along with it.

THE OUTCOME

The solution we designed, engineered and delivered met all of the above requirements. By responding quickly to the damage caused by the cargo ship, we were still able to deliver within budget and ensure the project progressed as scheduled.

Our success with this project led to similar work with the PTA including the double Guildford Rail Bridge.
